All international flights and inter-European flights to Barcelona arrive at Barcelona El Prat Airport, which is located at roughly a half hour ride from the city center.
About 70 national and international carriers offer flights to Barcelona. The most prominent international carriers are: Air France, AlItalia, Lufthansa, KLM, TWA, British Airways, Aeroflot Soviet Airlines, Korean Airlines, Continental Airlines, America West Airlines, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, American Airlines, Swissair, and Air India.
By aerobus
There are signs at each terminal of El Prat for exits to the aerobus. A 1-way trip costs just a few euros and takes about 30-40 minutes.
The aerobus leaves for the Barcelona city center stopping, in this order, at: Plaça de Espanya, Gran Via/Urgell, Plaça Universitat, Plaça Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia/Diputació, Avda. de Roma Urgell, Estación Sants, Plaça de Espanya, and back to the Airport.
On weekdays, the first bus leaves the airport at 6:00am, and the last at 1:00am. On weekends & holidays, the first bus leaves the airport at 6:30am, and the last at 1:00am.
Likewise, the first bus leaves Plaça de Catalunya for the airport at 5:30am, and the last at 12:15am on weekedays. On weekends & holidays, the first bus leaves Plaça de Catalunya at 6:00am, and the last at 12:30am.
By train
A metro line running from the Barcelona airport to the city center is currently under construction.
There is, however, a "Rodalies" train run by RENFE, Spain's national rail company (see Barcelona trains).
A single trip costs a few euros, and stops, in this order, at the centric metros: Estació Sants, Catalunya, and Arc de Triomf. You can transfer to other metro lines from any of those stations, or catch a national/ international train at Estació Sants.
By taxi
A taxi from the airport to the city center will cost about €20-€30. Check for airport and baggage supplements on the right rear passenger window.
Ryanair is making the Girona airport a more viable and affordable way to catch a flight to Barcelona. Other airlines that fly to Girona include Air Europa, Air Scotland, Air Malta, Central Wings (Poland), Croatian Airlines, Czech Airlines, Iberia, Monarch Airlines, Sterling Airlines, Swiss, Thomas Cook, Transavia, and Wizz Air.
Located 50 miles (80 km) north of Barcelona, the best way to get to the city if you're flying into Girona is take the Direct Barcelona Bus serivce (te.l 90 213 00 14) to Passeig de Sant Joan 52 in the city center. The trip will last about 70 minutes and cost about €10 one way.
You can also take a bus or taxi (€15) from the Girona airport to the Girona's bus/train station, and transfer from there to a bus or train to Barcelona for under €10.
